Kloster Wiblingen

The former Benedictine Wiblingen Kloster monastery is about 5 kilometres away from the city centre of Ulm. The construction that has been preserved until today, was built between 1714 and 1781, entirely replacing the building that was constructed in the 11th century.

Right at the centre of the complex, you can find the monastery church “a room whose tradition goes back to the late baroque period and which shows the most fascinating reinterpretation process towards Early Classicism” (H. J. Wörner: “Architektur des Frühklassizismus” – Early Classicism Style Architecture).
The ceiling frescos were painted by Januarius Zick.

The library hall, which was completed in 1744, is one of the most famous rococo buildings of Southern Germany.The ceiling frescos painted by Franz Martin Kühn, the architecture, the sculptures, the light columns of the gallery, the rich stucco work and the incidence of light give an impression of perfect harmony.
